Rolling back into Galveston for our winter celebrations, we discovered that Mardi Gras was going on in the city. What luck! So we decided to walk up to the abandoned main stage on the Strand and proceeded to put on a show for the shocked inhabitants of the festival.... either that or they hired us again despite the expressed displeasure of the Vatican.
We were the headline show for the Sunday family day at the festival and, as a result, we had perhaps our largest audience at Mardi Gras in years and that made our show that much more fun. The cool wind and cloudy weather didn't stop us nor did it stop the parades from going through the middle of our set... twice... same parade.
The Bilge Pumps return to Mardi Gras Galveston for Sunday family day... sponsored by Budweiser.

February in Galveston was a bit nippy this year, so the band dressed accordingly... no underwear.
The crowd shows up to watch the piratey nonsense on stage. Probably because we're the only act on at the time.
The crowd couldn't be there just because the band tosses beads out to them, could they?
Well, one sure fire way to bring the young 'uns it to start chucking 5 cent beads at them. Oh, and dress up like pirates.
Maroon the Shantyman and Sharkbait Simon the Scapegoat provide the rhythm and melody to the song... and the rest of the band can't hear them.
But we're the Bilge Pumps! Who needs to hear the beat or melody when we can just toss beads and sing in 5 different keys!
Here's the beach house the Bilge Pumps laid claim to during Mardi Gras. Poor thing. It was a proud place once. (sniff)

Nothing better for family day than a song about drunken Aussies. |
