'Rounding Cape Horn, consisting of navigating around Horn Island off the southernmost tip of South America through Magellan's Strait, was considered the most dangerous trip a sailor could do in the days of the tall ships. The frequent storms that pound this narrow strait between Chile and Antarctica, combined with the strong currents, fierce winds from the mountains (or williwaws), and frequent icebergs have created many a ships graveyard in the frigid waters.
